Last year I also googled 'Iver Johnson Champion' and found more stuff than I expected. But it's good with shot my dad got a lot of pheasants with it back in the day. But last year I did try some slugs through it and discovered that they group real well at 25 yds. It's a good old working class shotgun that's so pristine looking that I'm afraid to take it afield much. In 1978 I had it reblued and the receiver received a beautiful case-hardening along with some other minor work by a local gunsmith who was a master at such things. By the late 50's one of my older cousin's got it from my dad and in 1967 I got it and still have it. It was his first shotgun and it came from a local Western Auto store.

Full choke barrel (Serial # 28564XH) has been in the family since my dad got it new about 1940 or '41 when he was 16 or 17. 23# 10 1/2' double beard.back in my younger days. Honestly I was hoping for just a doe, but this was the only one I saw that day. I have been blessed with some huge deer in my life, but this little one made my day! I desperately wanted to get one with it and it was an 'anything with 4 legs' day for me. Here is a pic of the only deer I've ever killed with it. She's in great shape, but like an idiot, I had her reblued years ago and now need it done 'right'. Sent in an inquiry a few years ago and they actually told me that they would be very interested in a re-do of it. Looking into having mine refinished by Turnbull. My gun book says it was made 1909-1973, however I have seen other books reference a 1903 date as well. My strangest tale is the time I shot at a flock of doves passing me.they were all in a wad and with that one shot, FIVE fell to the ground! Got a decently nice 6 point buck, and a 23#, 10 1/2' double bearded gobbler with it. The symbols 'CRFX' is stamped inside the forearm, and I am told that sequence means something but I'll be danged if I know what! I've put my Jarrett in the closet and taken my Iver Johnson Champion hunting several times just to reconnect with my old grandad. I inherited my grand dads Champion and it was pre-s/n too. Hopefully, there is someone out there who can help with an approximate date of manufacture. This would prove that both the barrel and the receiver are original, of the same gun.

Mine has its serial number, immediately behing the trigger guard, and again, when the action is opened, if you look carefully, under the barrel, below the shell extrtactor, you can see it stamped again there. My mom used it for several years, earlier than that. Well, I don't really think mine is newer.
